In the 70 Weeks prophecy of Dan 9:24-27, the Bible teaches that there will be an ‘Abomination of Desolation’ that causes sacrifice and oblation (i.e., offering) to cease. This occurs in the middle of the 70th week of Daniel’s 70 week prophecy. In this middle time, there is an overspreading of abominations which causes the holy city and sanctuary to become desolate (i.e., the Abomination of Desolation). This is a parallel passage to the Abomination of Desolation in Mat 24:15 and Mk 13:14, which signals the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
But, we find in Dan 9:26 that the people of the ‘prince to come’ are the motive force behind the overspreading of abominations that cause desolation. Because Dan 9:27 refers to the ‘consummation’, it can be discerned that this middle of the 70th week signals the beginning of the little season of the Great Tribulation. Therefore, the ‘prince to come’ is the Antichrist (a.k.a., Man of Sin, Beast, Little Horn, King of the North, Gog, etc.). The ‘prince to come’ in Dan 9:26-27 is the worldly leader who instigates the Abomination of Desolation. The middle of the week also points to the symbolic number 3½, which is a symbolic number for both the church age and the Great Tribulation (see Symbolic Meaning of Numbers in the Bible for more information).
Therefore the ‘prince who is to come’ is responsible for the existence of the Abomination of Desolation in the holy place (i.e., churches and parachurches). When the Bible is examined, the ‘Abomination of Desolation’ represents the entrance of worldliness (kingdom of Satan) into the holy place (church). Worldliness in the church is also equated to the spiritual fornication of Babylon (churches and parachurches). This results in a desolation of the church (scattering and disunity of God’s people). Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (Dan 9:24)
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. (Dan 9:25)
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. (Dan 9:26)
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (Dan 9:27)
