Judgment Day – Lake of Fire

The most fundamental purpose of the Last Day is salvation and judgment.  Salvation is to be rescued from the wrath of God (Rom 5:9).  ‘Judgment’ is the determination that Christ makes on the Last Day.  Judgment Day in the Bible is the determination as to who will be in eternity with God forever (saved) and who will not (unsaved). Jesus (as the Word of God) is the Judge (2 Tim 4:1, John 5:22, John 5:27). Judgment will be by the Word of God (John 12:48).  Other symbols for the Last Day (e.g., battle, winepress of God’s wrath, etc.) also refer to the judgment of the Last Day, but add a different perspective to the nature and significance of judgment.

On the Last Day, all will be resurrected; some to the resurrection of life, others to the resurrection of damnation (John 5:25-30). Christians will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Cor 5:10, Ro 14:10), but will not be judged because their names are written in the Book of Life (Rev 3:5, Rev 20:12, Rev 20:15).  Christians are holy in spirit because they have been made spiritually alive (Eph 2:1-5), are indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Ro 8:16, 2 Tim 1:14) and have hearts without blame in holiness in the Last Day coming of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Th 3:13).  However, the unsaved will be judged according to their works on the Last Day (Great White Throne Judgment), found guilty and cast into the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:11-15).  On the Last Day, the soul dos the unsaved are destroyed (Mat 20:28) and their spirits are sent into the outer darkness (Mat 8:12, Mat 22:13, Mat 25:30).
