What is the former and latter rain? Many have used the ‘latter rain’ to flatter themselves that they have a special mission for God. Notably, Pentecostals often call themselves the latter rain. However, the true ‘former rain’ is the explosion of the Gospel of Jesus Christ started on the Day of Pentecost in the 1st century A.D. This former rain resulted in many people become saved in their spirits. Similar, the true latter rain is the renewed large distribution of the Gospel that occurs during the Great Tribulation before the return of Jesus Christ at His second coming on the Last Day. Rain in the Bible is a symbol for the Word of God (Gospel). This spiritual rain results in salvation. Salvation of the spirit occurs on earth and in the body of God’s people. The salvation of the soul occurs at the resurrection on the Last Day. The Last Day is when God’s people are raised in their new glorified bodies in the New Heavens and the New Earth.
