The Last Day is symbolized by a great final battle. In Rev 16, it is called the Battle of Armageddon, but this battle is referred to in other ways in Bible prophecy. For example, Rev 20:8-9, this battle is referred to as Gog’s battle. This final battle represents the culmination of the Great Tribulation. The Great Tribulation is that ‘little season’ when the Antichrist is the man of sin (little horn, king, prince) who leads the kingdom of Satan (world’s kingdoms) to persecute, deceive and silence God’s people. The Antichrist is powered by Satan, who is released from the bottomless pit. The gathering together for this battle occurs during the Great Tribulation and the battle itself is the Last Day. Of course, on the Last Day, Jesus Christ is the Rider on the White Horse that comes from heaven and destroys the armies of the Antichrist (Satan). This symbolizes Judgment Day.

Battle of Armageddon
The final battle of Armageddon is in the 6th Bowl Judgment of God’s wrath. All 7 of the bowl judgments reflect various spiritual truths about what the Last Day will be like.
- And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. (Rev 16:12-16)
The 6th Bowl involving the Euphrates River being dried for the Kings of the East, is a symbol for God’s people leaving their bondage to Babylon, which is false Christianity (false churches and parachurhces). In Rev 16:13, the 6th Bowl discussion involving the 3 Frogs Gathering for Battle is a symbol for the Great Tribulation where the dragon, beast and false prophet work together to war against God. These 3 Frogs
gather the kings of the land and world for the battle of the Great Day of the Lord Almighty (Rev 16:14). And, they gather in a place called Armageddon (Rev 16:16)
This battle includes the ‘whole world’ Greek: holos oikoumene (entire habitable world). This underscores that this is the final day battle. All the kingdoms of the world will be judged by the Lord Jesus Christ in this final battle:
- And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. (Luk 4:5)
- And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Rev 12:9)
- And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Mat 24:14)
- Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. (Rev 3:10)
- … He has appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom he hath ordained … in that he hath raised Him from the dead. (Act 17:31)
- Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (Luk 21:26)
- For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Rev 16:14)
Ultimately, this battle will against Jesus Christ and His armies:
- And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war … And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron … And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev 19:11,13-16)
It is important to examine the word ‘Armageddon’ that describes this final world battle. The word ‘Armageddon’ is literally the ‘mountain of gathering’:
- And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. (Rev 16:16)
- Hebrew – Highlights Old Testament significance
- Armageddon
- Literally, Har – mountain (H2022), of Megiddo (H4023)
- H2022 – Mountain – 545 occurrences
- H4023 – Megiddo – a place of gathering (12 occurrences )
- Armageddon – symbolic of a place of gathering for spiritual battle

Armageddon is the Great Day of God Almighty
- … go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Rev 16:14)
- For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? (Rev 6:17)
- The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hastens greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. (Zeph 1:14)
- And the angels which kept not their first estate … he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (Jude 1:6)
Gog’s Battle on the Last Day
Another parallel passage concerning battle on the Last Day involves Gog, of the Land of Magog. While ‘Armageddon’ emphasizes the ‘gathering’ aspect of the Last Day battle, Gog emphasizes unsaved people who are part of the Last Day battle. Gog is the great prince of the land of Magog and is a symbol for the Antichrist. This battle is featured in Rev 20:7-9 and Eze 38-39.
- And when the 1000 years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (Rev 20:7-9)
- God’s people: camp of the saints / beloved city
- Fire devoured them – Last day (Judgment day)
It is notable that Gog and Magog come from the 4 quarters of the earth (literally, land). This description emphasizes the universal nature of the unsaved being in all areas of the world.
- … deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog … (Rev 20:8)
- Earth – Gr: ge (literally, land), 4 – number of universal extent
- 4 Quarters of the earth (land) – furthest universal extent of people
- … thus says the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land … (Eze 7:2-3)
- And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. (Isa 11:12)
It is also notable that Gog and Magog represent the nations (Gentiles – not of Christians, nor of Jews)
… deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog … and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (Rev 20:8-9)
Babylon (Great Tribulation):
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication … (Rev 18:3)
… for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. (Rev 18:23)
… the ten horns … shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them … (Rev 17:14,16)
Again, this great army comes up from the breadth of the land, once again underscoring the universal aspect of the location of the unsaved.
- And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city … (Rev 20:9)
- Camp of the saints / beloved city – symbol of God’s people
- Compassed – points to Great Tribulation
- God’s people are scattered throughout the world
- Parable of the Wheat and the Tares – Rev 13:24-30, 36-43
Moreover, the amount of people in this great army is as the ‘sand of the sea’
- … Gog and Magog … the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. (Rev 20:8)
- Innumerable
- After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number … (Rev 7:9)
- Through faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed … so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. (Heb 11:11-12)
Gog and Magog are of Japheth, one of the sons of Noah. While Noah’s son Shem is where Abraham, Isaac and Israel arose from and Ham’s sons were generally the enemies of Israel, the sons of Japheth points to people who went to the end of the earth:
- Son of man, set thy face against Gog, [of] the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him … (Eze 38:2)
- Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras … By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. (Gen 10:1-2,5)
- Shem (relatives of Israel) – Abraham, Israel, Lot, Ammon, Moab, Edom, etc.
- Ham (adversaries of Israel) – Egypt, Babylon (Nimrod), Assyria and original inhabitants of the promised land
- Land of Magog – Symbol for the Nations (Gentiles)
- Son of man, set thy face against Gog, [of] the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him … (Eze 38:2)
- Magog was one of the 7 sons of Japheth (Gen 10:1-2)
- By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. (Gen 10:5)
- Land of Magog – symbolic of the place where the furthest nations (Gentiles) dwell
- Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God (1Co 10:32)

- And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh … for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (Luk 21:20,23-24)
- Parallel Passage – Rev 11:2 (Jerusalem trodden down)

Gog and Magog – Great Tribulation (Latter Years)
- … in the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. You shall ascend and come like a storm, you shall be like a cloud to cover the land, you, and all thy bands, and many people with you. (Eze 38:8-9)
- Church overrun with unsaved (Babylon)
- … It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into your mind, and you shall think an evil thought: And you shall say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. (Eze 38:10-12)
- Addressed to Gog (type of antichrist)
- Persecution of the church
Gog and Magog – Final Battle
- … and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (Rev 20:9)
- … prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus says the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwells safely … And you shall come from your place out of the north parts … and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army … Are you he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel … that I would bring you against them? And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel … that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel … (Eze 38:14-19)
- Final Judgment Day on Gog / Magog:
- Eze 38:1-8a – The Judgment on Gog, the chief prince of Meschech and Tubal
- And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armor, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. After many days thou shalt be visited … (Eze 38:1-8a)
- Eze 38:18-23 – Judgment day – God’s Fury upon Gog
- And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, says the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, says the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother. And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD. (Eze 38:18-23)
- Eze 39:1-5 – Judgment Day – Gog’s army given to the ravenous birds
- Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD. (Eze 39:1-5)
- Eze 39:6-10 – Judgment Day – Fire on the Land of Magog
- And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD. So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. Behold, it is come, and it is done, says the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken. And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, says the Lord GOD. (Eze 39:6-10)
- Eze 39:11-16 – Judgment Day – Burial of Gog and his multitude
- And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, says the Lord GOD. And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. And the passengers that pass through the land, when any sees a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog. And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land. (Eze 39:11-16)
- Eze 39:17-22 – Judgment Day – The Sacrificial Dinner (Last Day Supper – see Rev 19:17-21)
- And, thou son of man, thus says the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD. And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward. (Eze 39:17-22)

- Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle … Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east … And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains … ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee … And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one. (Zec 14:1-5,9)
- And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbor, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbor. And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance. And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague. And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. (Zec 14:12-16)
- For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter … And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down … For my sword … shall come down … upon the people of my curse, to judgment. The sword of the LORD is filled with blood … For it is the day of the LORD’S vengeance, and the year of recompense for the controversy of Zion. (Isa 34:2,4-6,8)
- For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. (Joe 3:1-2)
- Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. (Joe 3:9-12)
- Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them. The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run. Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness. They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded. They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief. The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? (Joe 2:1-11)
- The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. (Isa 2:1-5)
- For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin. Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited. And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem. (Isa 31:7-9)
- Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots: And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds: And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers: Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands. And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities. And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard. (Mic 5:9-15)
- Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God. In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. (Zec 12:2-11)
- Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle. Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together. And they shall be as mighty men, which tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded. (Zec 10:3-5)
- For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant. And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity. I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border. Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts. The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen. Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword. And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness. And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work. This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand. (Zep 2:4-15)
- The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle. (Isa 13:4)
- Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. (Zep 3:8)
- Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. (Eze 13:5)
- But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (Dan 11:44-12:1)
- And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. (Dan 2:44)
- But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. (Dan 7:26-27)
- And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Dan 8:25)
