Much of Christianity teaches that one must be baptized with water in order to be saved. This belief pervades many notable denominations. This includes Roman Catholicism, various protestant churches and other denominations. On the surface, there seems to be several Scriptures that teach that baptism with water is necessary for saved. On the other hand, there are a great many Scriptures that teach that salvation is not based on works, but by grace alone (Eph 2:8-9, Ro 3:21-31, Gal 2:16, 3:11, etc). The purpose of this study is to explain this apparent (but not real) contradiction. The physical act of baptism in water is indeed not necessary for salvation.
