Balaam was a prophet for hire. Balaam used divination. He was paid to curse God’s people. Ultimately, he deceived Israel to commit fornication. Balaam is a type of many false teachers and prophets in the church today. The false teachers in the church today lead people to commit spiritual fornication. The epistle of Jude is written to warn the readers of false teaching within the church. The false teachers in the church turn the grace of God is tuned into licentiousness (a license to sin). The nominal Christian church consists of both true Christians and false Christians (e.g., Mat 7:21-23, Lk 13:24-30).
